Mount Michael 7-Day On Campus Boarding Program

Mount Michael Benedictine offers international students the opportunity to board at the school for 7 days a week during the school year. The program offers international students an opportunity to study at Mount Michael without arranging a host family. They will have interaction with an American dean each weekend and enjoy the company of their peers.
International students choosing this program will be able to interact with their American friends during the weekend. Supervising deans will take 7-day boarding students to Omaha on Fridays and/or Saturdays to go out to eat and participate in other activities to immerse them in American culture.
International students are not required to participate in the 7-day on campus boarding program to attend Mount Michael. If international students decide they wish to participate in our 5-day boarding or day program then it is their responsibility to arrange a host family for the time they are not at Mount Michael.
Below are some common questions that international student families have had regarding our 7-day on campus boarding program. Should you have a question not listed below please contact the Director of Admissions at 402-289-2541 ext. 1003 or at admissions@mountmichael.org.

Question: Are there times when my son cannot stay at the school?

Answer: All students, including 7-day on campus boarders, must leave school during Christmas, spring and summer vacations.

Question: Will my son be allowed to leave on the weekends?

Answer: 7-day on campus boarding students will be allowed to leave on their own or with other students provided that arrangements have been made prior with the school principal by their parents or legal guardians.

Question: Will my son be allowed to have a car?

Answer: Yes, 7-day on campus boarders can have a car provided they are legally licensed to drive in the United States. As 5-day boarders must do, all 7-day on campus boarders must check in keys for the school week as it is a closed campus. 7-day on campus boarders will be responsible for checking keys on weekends as instructed by that weekend’s supervising dean.

Question: What is curfew for students on the weekend?

Answer: Curfew for senior students will be midnight and 11 p.m. for all others.

Question: How is food covered?

Answer: All meals provided by the school cafeteria will be included in the 7-day on campus boarding charge. Most weekends the supervising dean will take the students out for a meal in town or allow students to order food to be delivered to the school. In both cases students are responsible for the cost.

Question: Do you offer storage for students?

Answer: No, storage is not offered by Mount Michael. Anything that cannot be stored in students rooms or in freshman lockers cannot be stored here. It is the responsibility of the student and his family to find a storage facility off site. A off site storage facility may be needed if the student cannot fit all the things he has in his room or freshman lockers. Students are required to clean their rooms out at the end of the school year and will either have to store them somewhere else or ship them back home.

Question: Will my son have access to school facilities on weekends?

Answer: Yes, your son will have access to the same facilities he would during the week. This includes the gym, weight room, computer room, and laundry facilities. If rooms are locked the supervising dean can provide access.

Question: What about mass on Sundays?

Answer: Mass is available every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Mount Michael chapel. All 7-day boarders are required to attend mass.

Question: What about transportation to doctors/dentist appointments?

Answer:
Transportation will be provided to any necessary appointments during the school year. It is asked that all checkups, physicals, etc. be arranged during long breaks or before/after the school year as it can be difficult to arrange transportation for numerous appointments.

Question: What about pick up/drop off at the airport?

Answer: A member from the Mount Michael community will be there to welcome your son when he arrives to Omaha and to our community. If necessary, transportation will also be provided each time your son leaves or arrives from home during Christmas, spring and summer breaks.
