Homework:
The Engine that Drives the Mount

According to -Mr. Everitt- Mount Michael students have some of the best ACT scores in Nebraska. Because of this, Mount Michael is considered one of the best schools in the area. To most people, this would mean a difficult curriculum, a lot of homework, and a very stressful environment. But what do the students of Mount Michael have to say about it?

Freshmen Study HallThe freshmen are just settling into the Mount Michael environment. Some are just coming together from many of the junior high schools in the Omaha-Lincoln and some from out-of-state. On average, they say they get about two hours of homework each day. They also say this homework has a medium to hard difficulty level. Said freshman Tom Kenny, "The homework is kind of hard, but I'll get used to it."

Most of the sophomores, already having spent one year at The Mount, know what's going on. They have a little less homework, around one and a half hours. They also say the homework is much easier. Compared to last year, they think this year is much easier and a lot less stressful. Sophomore Andy Ciaccio stated, "Having more freedom this year is making it a bit easier to finish homework and study for tests."

The juniors, with two years under their belts, are looking at the rumored most difficult year Mount Michael has to offer. Junior John Behrendt explained saying, "All the talk about junior year being the hardest, it's not a lie." There is almost three hours of homework to be completed almost every night. And this isn't easy stuff either. On a scale of one to ten, they say the difficulty ranks around eight or nine. They thought their last year was a lot easier. They said the homework was half as difficult and took half the time.

The seniors, with junior year behind them, think senior year is definitely less stressful. They say they get half as much homework but it is still fairly hard. They all seem to be looking forward to the end of the year and graduation. Senior Matt Core keeps a focused attitude simply saying, "School is super!" - Evan Freilich
