Every September
29 people have met to celebrate the guardian Saint Michael the Archangel.
This year we at Mount Michael continued the
tradition and celebrated Michaelmas. Yes “Michaelmas” is
a word just like Christmas, and the student body was taught this
by the celebrant of the mass Father Richard. Along with Father Richard
spreading the message of the bible were the first and second readers,
sophomores Michael Patton and Michael Gibilisco, and
the petitions were read by Michael Pick, Michael Lundgren, Michael
Block, Michael
Dillion, and Michael Vitito. Can you see the trend?
The tradition of Michaelmas was started in the 6th century by a following
of Christians who prayed to Saint Michael for protection during the
approaching winter. Early Christians saw him as we still see him
today. He was seen as protector, a warrior, and a leader. He helps
us here at Mount Michael to do the best we can, and he leads us in
all the things we do, including academics, our social lives, and
athletics.
Finally Father Richard stated that we should remember Saint Michael
the Archangel more then once a year. We should be able to pray to
him for the protection and successfulness of not only ourselves but
of others too. Saint Michael brought peace and comfort to the people
in the 6th century and will bring peace today. If we have the courage
to pray to our patron Saint Michael the Archangel, he will help us
to be our best, and he will protect us from harm.
