“So,
I have to dance with my mom?” Almost all Mount Michael freshmen
ask this very question on the week of the annual “Mom prom.”
After the dance is over, though, members of every class are glad
that they got the chance to spend such a great night with such special
ladies.
The
night was kicked of by Fr. Richard Thell O.S.B. asking a blessing
on the evening. A full meal really got the evening started. Everyone
was served steak with baby potatoes and vegetables, followed by
apple pie a la mode. Regarding the dinner, sophomore Aaron Cox
said,
“The good food really set the mood for the rest of the night.”
After the tables were all cleared, Fr. Richard got his annual chance
to do his “David Letterman thing.” Students then

got
a chance to give their mother a rose and tell her “I love
you.” Following Fr. Richard at the podium were senior student
body president Matt Luettel and freshman class president Mark
Tosone.
Both speeches were well given and well liked by the crowd. Sophomore
and former freshman president Ben Hankey said, “I know
how nervous you can get before something like that and I thought
they
did really well.”
Finally,
everyone hit the dance floor. This year’s dance was marked
by an especially high number of people spending most of the night
actually dancing. The YMCA was one of the first songs to grace
the speakers, followed by the Cha-Cha Slide. Of course, the seniors
helped to lead the dance so that no one would look too ridiculous.
The DJ even got students to serenade their mothers with famous
love
songs by singers like Elvis. Overall the night was a great success.
The night was best summed up by Mrs. Peggy Poe who said, “That
was a blast.”
