Starry, Starry Knights

Slide Show One - Two

Last Saturday was the Night of Knights with the theme this year being Starry Starry Knights, based on the Vincent Van Gogh painting Starry Starry Night. Going along with the theme, everything was in French. The evening started with the student ambassadors getting their assignments and free pizza and pop. Mrs. Lundgren was in charge and kept the students occupied till around 4:45. At that time the ambassadors went up to the chapel for a mass with Fr. John. After the mass the guests began to arrive at about 5:30. The period before dinner was devoted to socializing and biding on the silent auction items in the union and cafeteria. Two of the student's favorite auction items for this year were an amazingly cute Black Labrador puppy, that was carried around my sophomore John Behrendt, and a talking parrot.
Keith Allerton opened the evening with a short speech, which included an apology met with laughter for the French theme due to the French being at odds with the United States at the present time. The punch-line to this joke was the other theme considered was Arabian Nights. As the dinner progressed section after section of the silent auction began to close and the table-runners could be seen sprinting frantically to get all the guest's bids in before it was to late.
After dinner School President Brian Osborne gave a very heart-felt speech in which he said that even though he is leaving Mount Michael this would not be his last Night of Knights. After his talk, Osborne introduced the night's honorees, David and Peggy Sokol. The Sokols spoke of their fondness for Mount Michael and the great experience it provides young men. They also spoke appreciatively of their son D.J.'s many peers from the class of 1999 who were in attendance.
The Mount Michael community would like to thank all the workers and guests that made this years Night of Knights such a great success. -Article and Photos by David Nelson
