S.A.M.E. Competion 2003

Every year Mount Michael sends a team comprised of Drafting III and IV to UNO to compete in the S.A.M.E (Society of American Military Engineers) competition. This years team consisted of two juniors, Greg Hall and Dan Herman, and two seniors, Will Kenny and Jarred Conforte. For this years project Mount Michael’s Drafting Team proposed a athletic complex to theoretically be built east of the school by the existing volleyball courts. They struggled through strife and conflict to finish their project, which was, in classic Mount Michael student fashion, completed the night before.
A total of twenty-one high schools competed in this year’s competition, with prizes granted to the top three. Unfortunately this year’s team did not place, but as team leader Conforte said during the presentation, “After all this is done and the awards are given out, even if we didn’t win anything, we learned valuable lessons.”
Although this year’s team failed to bring home a victory the future is looking bright for the Drafting Team. Next year’s team leaders, Dan Herman and Greg Hall are looking forward to working with the upcoming Drafting II students and are confident they can get the job done next year.
