The Mount Michael Community recently took time out to spend
an evening in recognition of the great accomplishments of the student
body. Both academics and sports awards were presented. While the
accomplishment and awards are more than can be listed here there
are some of particular note.
The first thing to mention was that at the Harvard Model Congress
this past winter, Mount Michael students’ received honors
greatly disproportionate to their numbers. This is a clear indication
of the hard work and preparation by Mount Michael students behind
the tutelage of Mr. Buschelman.
Mount Michael language students were recognized for the high state
and national rankings on the National Language Exams. Six Mount
Michael students received national rankings. Brent Lockee was particularly
note worthy for his ranking of 4th place in the nation as a second
year French student. (read

Junior Mike Lundgren received special recognition twice. Once
by Fr. Michael with the "Bausch & Lomb Science Award" for
the outstanding Physics student and later by history teacher Mrs.
Dowd with the "Humanities Award".
Also of note were two sophomore awards. Brent Lockee was given
the "Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Award" and Scott Lindgren
received the Omaha Exchange Club "Sophomore of the Year Award".
The final award of the night was the "Mount Michael Award" which
is given by election of the faculty in recognition of the student
who most epitomizes the ideals of Mount Michael. This years recipient
was Mark Hotovy.
Finally, congratulations to all the students of Mount Michael
who put in so much hard work and effort to make the 2002-2003 school
year the great year that it was.
