NHS Paint-A-Thon

Group workingOn Saturday, August 16th, Mount Michael’s National Honors Society (NHS) gave a helping hand to the 15th Annual Brush-Up-Nebraska Paint-A-Thon project. This is a Non-Profit organization that recruits volunteers to paint homes of deserving people. This was the second year that Mount Michael has participated in this event. Most all of the members started out their morning meeting at St. James to carpool to the designated house. There were donuts and orange juice welcoming the members and parents. The project, which started at 9:00 a.m., took only about three and half hours to complete. Junior and Vice President of NHS, Ron Kmiecik, commented, The day was fun, we got the Paintershouse painted a lot faster than we expected.” Senior and President of NHS, Mike Pick added “It was a good feeling helping our community. Although the day was hot, it was a lot of fun.” The members who participated in the event on August 16th were Pat Cogar, Matt Core, Stash Dwornicki, Chris Gamm, Dan Gard, Greg Hall, Andy Huss, A.J. Killeen, Mike Lundgren, Mike Pick, Erik Patton, John Pieper, Ben Swinarski, Pat Tefft, John Behrendt, Zach Casey, Steve Christenson, Matt Haas, Ben Hankey, Ron Kmiecik, Scott Lindgren, Brent Lockee, Al McKnight, Ben Suing, Blake Suing, Lance Villeneuve, and Josh Vinduska. Parents Frank and Jane Dwornicki, Lauri Killeen, Kent Christenson and Brother of Josh Vinduska, Joe Vinduska helped out as well. However, a special thanks go to Juniors Al McKnight and Ron Kmiecik, and Seniors Andy Huss, Greg Hall, and Dan Gard. Also, Senior Dean Tim Struckman and NHS Leader Fr. Louis These individuals came on Monday, August 11 to prep the house. They did the trim work, priming, and scraping. Kmiecik said, “It took a little longer than expected, but it made the actual day run a lot smoother. Also, It feels good to know that we are helping the people in need.” Another thanks goes to Lowe’s Home Improvent store on 147th and Maple and Bob Hall who provided Mount Michael with all the supplies needed to complete the job. Also Burger King and Godfathers Pizza on North 30th Street who provided the lunch for the members and helpers. “All and all the day was successful and a good experience,” said Pick. - Matt Haas
