| The
Annual Mount Michael Fall Festival was a big hit this year as always.
The day started out rainy and cold, but as the festival
got underway the sun came out and it turned out to be a perfect
day for a festival. As usual gym classes had been preparing the
set
up for a week before the festival, and the stands were ready, the
games
set up, and the animals brought in. The first people arrived around
11 and everything was ready, food was already cooking and ready
for those early-birds. Everything from Heavenly Apples, which are
apples
covered in caramel and topped with a healthy serving of nuts, to
the age-old favorite of Sno Cones. But food wasn’t the only
thing present to entertain the guests at the festival, games were
in abundance and musical entertainment worked to please the audience
all day long.
Games spanned from everything from water-balloon launching,
which consisted of an oversized rubber band being used to fling
water-balloons at over 50 miles an hour into targets, to playing
poker to win a
2-liter of pop. The new Teen Scene location was the area for many
games and events. The stage, where various groups from around the
area performed for a delighted audience, was located in the Teen
Scene area adjacent to the games. In the Teen Scene, many people,
young and old, tried their hand and luck at throwing a football
through a hanging tire, tangling with friends at Twister, getting
a good
hand at poker (by throwing darts at the cards!), and Salami & Cheese.
The adults could have fun too, as Pickles was provided and raffles
were held. Kids had their fun in the Kiddy Korral. Games for the
little ones were provided for a ticket or two. Also, a giant card-board
box maze was built and the kids could crawl through to get to the
other side for a piece of candy. The cake walk was a big success,
and bake goods were in no shortage. Everything from pies to brownies
and cakes were in attendance in the giant tent. For a few dollars
one could pick up a tasty snack and bring it home for dessert that
night. The faculty, students, parents, various groups, and volunteers,
such as the Knights of Columbus, worked as hard as they played,
every parent and student had a shift that they had to work at a
certain
stand.
The Petting Zoo was
a big hit for the kids, as they got to pet farm animals and kittens
for just one ticket. For one ticket
you could’ve ridden a horse around for awhile and gotten
a chance to feel what it’s like to be a cowboy. A hayrack
ride was running non-stop for anyone that wanted to look around
at the
Mount’s beautiful scenery. The bingo hall ran till late in
the afternoon, and provided fun for our older visitors. The Fall
Festival, despite
some gloomy weather at the start, went off without a hitch,
and this will continue to be a long-standing tradition at Mount
