On
Wednesday January 14, 2004 Mount Michael Juniors gathered in the
Student Union for a night of college planning. There to
speak
about college was Charles Ramos a representative from Saint Louis
University. Ramos said that there are 3800 colleges in the United
States and that students have to choose just one of these colleges
to be the one that they are going to call home for 4 years. After
Ramos finished there was time for questions. One mother had a great
question, she asked how Mount Michael’s curriculum rating
was compared to other high schools in the country. Ramos said that
Mount
Michael had a curriculum rating of 9 out of a possible 10. Those
high schools with a 10 were considered to be the top 10 high schools
in the nation. That puts Mount Michael in about the top 1% in the
country.
After
Ramos’ presentation, a representative from Education
Quest spoke. Education Quest is a non-profit organization that
has its home base right in
Omaha. They try to help students with financial problems go to college. They
help search for scholarships, financial aid, and other awards that would help
the student be able to attend a good college.
When Mr. Everitt was asked about the evening he said, “I think it was
a good kickoff for the search process and that we had some very interesting
speakers
that provided a lot of information for our students.” However, the
evening was best summed up by junior Brent Lockee who said, “Tonight’s
information was high quality and any information helps for the search for
the right college.” – Article by Mitchell
