Saturday
night at the Mount was the place to be. The auction, dinner, and
dancing combined made this 15th Annual Night of Knights one of
the
best. It brought donators of all ages to Mount Michael to bid on
some great items and help support the school. The students provided
excellent service all throughout the night carrying bids and, of
course, the freshmen helped the ladies to the door with a smile.
The
night began at 4:45 with mass and was followed by mingling in
the Armory for
an hour. When the bell finally rang for dinner the night really
got fired up. Keith Allerton, Mount Michael’s Development
Director, and senior class president Greg Hall gave opening
speeches
to start the evening. This was followed by a prayer given by Abbot
Theodore and then the fabulous food was served. While the guests
enjoyed their food, the real work began for the Student Ambassadors.
The students were seen flying up and down the halls to get their
bids in for their tables. “After a track meet this is the
last thing I want to be doing, but it’s for the good of
the school,” said sophomore Phil Schulte. The Silent Auction
continued all the way through dinner and the Live Auction. Some
of the great
Silent Auction items consisted of an Okoboji Weekend, which is
a four day trip at Okoboji, the Homemade Delicious Pie item, which
Mount Michael cook Judy Kline donated one pie each month for a
year
to the winner, and Wine Tasting for Twelve at Mark’s Restaurant
in Dundee. These were only three of the over 300 items donated
to
the Silent Auction. After dessert was served, the Live Auction
began.
The Live Auction began
with a beautiful $2,750 String of Pearls and was followed by 15
other fabulous items. The auctioneer was quick and the pace was
fast while each item was brought up. While the intensity of the
auction grew, the people, and their money, grew weary. However,
when the final item was brought up, the donors quickly became excited.
The 1973 Volkswagon Super Beetle started at $5,000 and ended at
a quality $6,500. After the Super Beetle was finished, the dancing
began.
The Knights got their
groove on when Bozak and Morrisey took the stage and played classic
‘70s rock and roll, such as the Rolling Stones’ and
Santana’s hit songs. The night was a huge success for the
school and everyone had a great time, even the worn out students
who helped make the night possible. Thanks to all the volunteers
for their help in making this year’s Night of Knights a complete
and groovy hit.
