Incoming freshmen gathered Monday
night out at the Mount to have their questions answered, hear from
current students, and take a look around Mount Michael’s beautiful campus.
The evening commenced, as events at Mount Michael
always do, with a prayer led by Abbot Theodore. After the opening prayer, Mr.
Ridder gave his opinion about
the school and then invited longtime student dean Fr. Richard to say a few
things about his experience with the school. Fr. Richard gave a great speech
about all
that the monks do to improve the school, and also about all that the school
does to improve its students.
After Fr. Richard was finished, the students and
parents split up. The incoming freshmen went to the gym to talk to current students,
and parents stayed in the
Armory to ask Mr. Ridder and some other faculty members questions about Mount
Michael.
Most of the incoming freshmen already knew nearly
everything about the school, so some of the current students working at orientation
decided to show them some
of the surrounding countryside. The thirty or so incoming students in attendance
split up into groups and, along with the students attending Mount Michael now,
took a scenic walk through the woods and up to the bonfire site before heading
back to the school.
Following this excursion, students and parents
gathered in the Armory for refreshments and to talk.
Orientation was a great success, and it left incoming students eager and excited
to begin their Mount Michael experience in the
fall.
