On Monday, Mount Michael held
their annual Spring Mother’s
Banquet. The night started at 6:00 and consisted of a cocktail
hour and dinner. The event is one of the ways Mount Michael welcomes
the
incoming mothers and says goodbye to the senior mothers that will
be leaving us at the end of this year.
The Mount Michael freshman, who were directed by
Brother James, helped set up for the night which not only included setting up
the tables, but also catching
a mouse that happened to run inside. Not long after the mouse was caught, mothers
started showing up for a cocktail hour. After picking up their name tags, the
mothers had a chance to talk to all of the incoming mothers, that is the mothers
of all the incoming freshmen. Mr. Ridder, a few of the deans, and many of the
monks also attended the event, which gave the mothers a chance to experience
the atmosphere of The Mount.
At 7:00, Fr. Richard began dinner with a prayer
and welcomed all the Mothers. After staring longingly at all of the food, the
freshmen once again went into
action. They helped serve all the dinners and deserts which were prepared on
the spot by Abraham Catering.
After everyone had finished their meals, the Mount
Michael choir, instructed by Mrs. Theis, entertained the guests with two songs.
To conclude the night,
Abbot Raphael let the mothers know just how important they were to the Mount
Michael community and gave the closing prayer. He wished them a safe drive
home and ended the night.
Brother James said the Mother’s Banquet is one of the nicer events during
the year. He said, “I like to call it an extension of Benedictine hospitality.
What better way is there to welcome incoming freshman mothers and say goodbye
to the senior mothers?”
