New Faces in the Classrooms

Bro John       There is a new teacher teaching the sophomore religion class this year. Bro John Schaefer has taken over the class that was previous taught by Fr. Louis. Bro John grew up on a farm near Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He graduated from Mount Marty College where he studied English and Education. After he was done with college he went on to teach in Kansas City for two years. After those two years of teaching he decided to move to San Francisco where he worked for an Electronic Manufactory. He then decided to join the monastic community last year, because he always knew he wanted to be in the religious order. Bro John, who is training to become a brother, will take his vows on October 3rd. He says that living in the monastery is interesting, and also has its up and downs. One of the downs is learning to live with people that are older and younger than you.
Bro. John said that Mount Michael is a lot different than when he was in high school, because he went to a public school, their classes where a little larger, and there where girls, however his school was also located in the middle of corn fields. Bro John can be seen surfing the internet, hiking around the campus, and reading when not in the class room teaching the sophomore class. All of us at Mount Michael wish Bro John success in this school year, and the years to come, and with his practice in becoming a brother.

Mr. Roshone      Mount Michael opens its arms wide to an Alumnus who has become the new Freshmen Social Studies teacher. Mr. John Roshone a Mount Michael Alumnus who graduated in 1999, went off to the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he studied math and social studies. He knew he wanted to become a teacher because when he was young he always found an interest in kids, and he always admired his Father who was also a teacher. It’s been his dream job to come back and teach at Mount Michael, because this school is so highly regarded. Mr. Roshone who is a resident of Omaha is taking over freshmen World Cultures that were previously taught by Mr. Buschleman who will now just teach Government, Economics, and American History. Mr. Roshone will also be teaching Pre-Calculus to the junior’s. When he is not in the classroom teaching he can be seen on the football fields helping Mr. Gilligan coaching the freshmen team. He says that the freshmen team is looking good, but it’s too early to tell how they will do in the season. As well as coaching football he is also the assistant basketball coach for Mr. Mayberger at Mount Michael. He is also the head coach for the Junior Varsity team. All of the faculty and students are glad to have him here at Mount Michael and wish him luck for the rest of the year. Article & Photos by: Scott Ritzman
