College
is a big step for a student leaving any high school. At Mount Michael
the faculty and some Catholic colleges have come to visit the students.
The Juniors and Seniors of Mount Michael filed into the gym to meet
with prospective colleges. Each college had its own table, which
they filled with a variety of things, from a laptop scrolling positive
messages about the owner’s college to pamphlets and sign-up
cards where students could request information. It was a casual
atmosphere as students would simply walk up to colleges they were
interested in and have a short conversation with the representative
from that college. If the student was interested they could sign
up to receive information via mail and e-mail.
“It
was a shocker to see all the colleges and to be faced with the challenge
of choosing just one,” said Junior Scott Ritzman. Ritzman,
among all the other students of Mount Michael, is faced with a short
time until he must start applying for colleges. Colleges, of course,
are a big decision for every student. Their choice of college will
affect the rest of their life and every student must choose wisely.
Most students
were happy with how the night went, saying, “This year was
much more organized, and I was more informed after this planning
night.” Scott Lindgren also went on to say that college is
a decision that cannot be taken lightly. Catholic College night
is an opportunity for students at Mount Michael to learn about and
perhaps even change their decisions about college. It is an important
tool for the future of every student.
