The opening school ceremony
for this year was spectacular as usual. To start of mass Al McKnight
read the first reading and got us all started and ready for the
word of the Lord. Abbot Raphael provided us with a fascinating demonstration
about how there is always more room, and not to be discouraged when
someone asks us to complete another task. He presented us with a
glass vase filled to the top with golf balls. The vase represented
our lives and the golf balls where the tasks, jobs, and duties we
already have to complete. We said it was full and he agreed. Then
he proceeded to drop beads in between the cracks of the golf balls
and again we said it was full. Next he took out sand and poured
that in to the vase as well. We thought it was finally full and
where ready to move on, but then he took out a glass off water and
poured it in really filling the vase. The other things he added
to the vase of life where a representation of tasks in our lives
that we could complete even if we thought our lives where already
full to the brim. He then said, “There is always room for
more in life.” It definitely made all of us think.
James Clark and Zach Lage
showed us there talents with song. They sang the main verses to
all the songs at the
mass and sound wonderful. Their voices filled the chapel like God
sent angels. Their singing encouraged everyone in the chapel to
sing along, even if they felt with their voices they shouldn’t.
They truly did not miss a single note.
Min Ho Chang and Kyle Svingen played
the violins while the alter was being prepared during the offertory.
Their strokes where in sync and added to the beautiful playing of
the organ by Mrs. Thies. They did not crumble at the fact that we
where all watching them, but actually thrived and lived upon it.
It was the perfect situation for them to get an early start to show
the school their gifts.
