In a school where recruiting brings in nearly the entire student
body, how many students coming to take the entrance exam is an important
figure. Mount Michael is a school where the entrance exam determines
whether or not a potential student is qualified for attending the
school.
With a reputation as a difficult, prestigious school, Mount Michael’s recruiting
department has to work very hard to generate interest among students from different
schools. This year, Mr. Jim Clements is the admissions director, and he has high
hopes for next year’s freshman class, expecting around 50 or so students.
The amount of students taking the entrance is usually a good forecaster of how
many students the Mount will be getting in the next year, and at the testing
that took place on Saturday, the eighth of January, to qualify for scholarships,
there were 44 eighth graders, 21 seventh graders, and one international student
(from Korea.)
So far there are only 36 seventh graders, two sixth graders, and three eighth
graders are signed up for the next test on the 15th. However, Clements expects
that there will be a number of potential students signing up for the test in
the next week.
It seems that this year there is an increased interest from Lincoln, as seven
students are coming from there to take the test. There are also a few from Gretna
and Valley. The only “different” thing about this years recruiting
process is the way financial aid is handled. In the past, people applied for
financial aid before their son was actually accepted at Mount Michael. Now, however,
the process has been reversed. Financial aid applications will come in after
people have been accepted into the school.
With figures like these, it looks like next year’s freshman class will
be a good-sized one, and a compliment to the Mount Michael community.
