Grandparents Night
Grandparents’ night is always a special tradition at Mount Michael, and this year was no different.
After the students escorted their grandparents to the gym to pick up their nametags. The night was kicked off with a speech by student council president Phil Schulte.
A talk was also given by principal and head football coach Tom Ridder, who said that “you (grandparents) will be happy to learn about the things going on in the classroom,” and the usual “we have a great group of kids.”
Senior class president Evan Freilich also gave a talk on the love of grandparents.
The Mount Michael choir, led by long time instructor Marilyn Theis, performed their 2005-06 debut at Grandparents’ night as well, a tradition that has been alive for years.
After the presentations, refreshments were served in the Armory. The cookies, lemonade and cider made way for a fun autumn night as the students then led their grandparents around the school to show them different things they participate in. Others were just content to talk and share their school experiences at the Mount verbally.
After this “open-house” time, everyone met back in the gym for evening prayer. Father Richard presided over the ceremony, and Theis and senior chorus member Zach Lage along with Father John provided musical accompaniment.
Before the students knew it, the night was over. They sent their grandparents off with presents, farewells, and thank-yous for visiting them in the midst of a hectic school week.
Grandparents’ night was organized by brother James Pope with the help of the Mother’s Club, led by junior parent Kathy Dunlay, mother of Drew.
