Armory
Courtyard Renovated
For
three weeks, a construction crew redesigned the entryway outside
the Mt. Michael Armory. The work was started in late October,
and completed just in time for the school’s annual Open
House on November 13.
Dr. Curtis Boeck
presented the idea to Jim Schulte last spring. He thought
renovations needed to be made. Schulte said, “He thought
it would be more attractive and safer.” Schulte then
presented the idea to the Booster Club which responded to
the idea enthusiastically.
The
renovations for the courtyard included replacing an asphalt
path with a wider sidewalk. The entrance is highlighted with
two pillars on both sides of the walkway, new sod and shrubbery.
The pillars are made out of brick, and have a Benedictine
cross on them. They provide a welcome for guests as they arrive.
Donations of money,
time and materials funded the project, with the remaining
balance being picked up by the Booster Club. Schulte scheduled
the volunteers. Dave Ciaccio completed the architectural work.
A special thanks
goes out to Boeck, Schulte, Ciaccio, Vic Pelster, Todd Rohweider,
John Barna, Harley and Tom Swanson, Steve Frederick, Ted Menzel,
Fr. John Hagemann and all the other workers for their efforts
on this project.
