Senior
Retreat
Last Friday was a chance
for the class of 2006 to get out of a busy day of school for
a day of relaxation and fun. The senior retreat is different
from all the others because it is held at the Boystown ropes
course instead of the pro-sanctity center. Led by Bob Solonyka,
the seniors went through exercises that built class unity
and leadership.
Upon
arrival, the seniors were split into two groups and each group
was given a tennis ball. Using communication and teamwork,
the seniors had to get the tennis ball around the circle as
fast as they could. Then, the seniors were split into thirds
for the spider web, the lava pit, and to walk across a rope
between two trees. All of the exercises made you depend on
your classmates for guidance and support.
After lunch, generously
provided by Mount Michael moms, the class was split again
for more exercises. Swinging across a rope, more rope walking,
and the daunting 12 ft. wall all needed trust in each other
and communication to be completed. Reid Anderson commented
on the wall saying, “Admittedly, I was petrified trying
to get myself over that wall. Once I fell back on my brothers
though, I was able to finish.” The
senior class had everybody get over the wall, including 300-pound
Cole Bunner.
While everybody enjoyed
the retreat, the class also completed the tasks efficiently.
Sister Carolyn said, “This was one of my best retreats.
The senior class worked really well together.” Grant
Mathey summed up the day saying, “This retreat didn’t
really bring us closer, we were already as close as brothers.
It just revealed how united we all are.”
