Feast of the Archangels
The 2005 Feast of St. Michael served as a reminder for all students at the Mount how important it is to have an angel at your side.
The annually celebrated festival has become a day for an all-school mass, and this year was no different. Abbot Raphael Walsh, Mt. Michael’s president, gave a sermon about the Catholic feast day celebrating the archangels Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel.
“Guardian angels are here to protect us, and St. Michael watches over us here in our community every day,” said the Abbott in his homily Thursday. He also said that when the congregation at mass says “let us join the angels and saints” this means we are called to be angels ourselves and be good to other people, an important principle in an all-boy’s boarding school.
The archangel’s feast day, as a celebration of Mt. Michael’s namesake, made for a special dinner of steak and potatoes and Boston Crème Pie for desert, a rare treat and a nice change. – Phil Ervin

PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL

St. Michael the Archangel,
Defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him,
We humbly pray.
And do thou oh prince of the Heavenly Host
By the power of God cast into hell Satan
And all the evil spirits who prowl throughout the world,
Seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
