New attractions, old favorites at 50th Fall Festival

      The 50th Fall Festival at Mount Michael featured some new events as well as some old and familiar favorites.
      This year, Mount Michael decided to bring back carnival rides, which had been absent from the Festival for years. The Festival’s “midway” was located on the football field and featured a ferris wheel and a small roller coaster.
      This year’s Festival also included a Texas Hold ‘em poker tournament. The grand prize for winning the tournament was a pair of tickets to the Rolling Stones concert on January 26th at the Qwest Center. A new game this year was “ladder golf”, which consisted of two golf balls being tied together and being thrown at a free-standing rack with three rungs. Wrapping the balls around the bottom rung earned the thrower one point, wrapping them around the second rung was two points, and wrapping them around the third rung earned three points.
      Many older features were also at this year’s Festival. Nachos, Heavenly Apples, Polish and Italian sausages, Old Chicago pizza, and hamburgers all fulfilled the dining needs of the crowd. Favorite returning booths included the two-liter pop bottle ring toss, the take-a-chance meat booth, the dime toss, and the pickle booth. A variety of musical and entertainment groups took the stage throughout the day, providing live entertainment for all in attendance.
      This year’s Fall Festival revived some old traditions, started some new ones, and kept many old ones going for another year.
