Run
on the Ridge
The 5K Run/1 Mile Walk held at Mt. Michael on September 24,
2005 helped finalize the 50th year celebration of the fall
festival. With the sponsorship of Pepsi, Atchley Ford, Professional
Hearing Center and the Twin Rivers YMCA, each participant paid
an entry fee of $20. They ran the course around the grounds
under a light mist at 11 o’clock in the morning. The
runners were mostly Mount Michael Staff members, monks, and
students or families of students.
The winner of the Run on the Ridge was the Mount Michael freshman assistant dean,
John Mathews, who finished with a time of 17:05. The overall women’s winner
was Tami Kloewer, who finished with time of 24:57. She finished ninth overall.
The divisional winners were Male age 12 and under, Jesse Johnson, at 14:44, Male
20-29 was Mathews, and 30-39, Juan Carlos Torres, third overall, with a time
of 20:11. The 40-49 winner, Steve Thull, had a time of 20:24, which put him fourth
overall. Dave Chastain, the twelth person overall, was the winner at age 50-59,
and he had a time of 25:49. The only other woman, other than Kloewer was Betsy
Noel, who won her age division and had a time of 24:58, one second behind Kloewer.
After the race, junior Nick Hall said, “Although
there were not many people
there, it was still a fun and enjoyable experience.”
