Shakespeare's
"Twelfth Night"
“All the world’s a stage”, according to
the Mount Michael Masquers. They showed this on March 4
and 5 when they performed Shakespeare’s “Twelfth
Night”. This play was special for Mt. Michael seniors
Mike Gibilisco and Zach Lage as it was their last performance
here at Mt. Michael. Gibilisco, acting veteran, has been
in eleven productions at Mt. Michael. Lage has also delighted
audiences in seven Mt. Michael productions. These two seniors
each gave a farewell speech to the fans that have supported
them throughout their drama careers here. When asked to
comment on his overall Mt. Michael drama experience Lage
said, “It has taught me a lot about who I am and who
I want to be.”
The
play was held on the nights of Saturday March 4, and Sunday
March 5, both at 7:00. “Twelfth Night” is
one of Shakespeare’s more confusing creations. It is
about identical twins, one male, Sebastian, and one female,
Viola. They are tragically involved in a shipwreck and separated
to different lands. Each thinks the other is dead. Viola
dresses up as her twin brother so she can find work with
the Duke of Illyria, Orsino. His only job for her is to woo
Olivia, niece of Sir Toby Belch. Viola falls madly in love
with Orsino and his deep understanding of love. However Olivia
falls in love with Viola as a man. Meanwhile Sebastian falls
in love with Olivia and everyone realizes that the two are
twins.
Sophomore
Sam Lathrop who played Antonio said, “Being
in a play is a great experience, and I look forward to being
in more Mt. Michael performances.” Lathrop was accompanied
by fellow sophomores Derek Stieren, Orsino, and Ryan Skahan,
Sir Toby Belch. There were also many talented freshmen who
participated in the play. About the future of Mt. Michael
drama, Mark Robinson said, “Although we are sending
off some of our more experienced talent into the real world,
we feel confident in our prospects for the future.”
