Ash
Wednesday Service
"Remember man that you are dust and to dust
you shall return".
Those
are the words we all know well as the words spoken by the
priest as ashes are made in the sign of a cross
on our foreheads on Ash Wednesday.
In his homily Abbot
Theodore said that while these words remind us of our
mortality, their meaning is transformed by the symbol
of the cross made on our foreheads. The Cross is the
sign of life that is used to mark us just like at our
baptism and confirmation. The Cross is the Good News
of our Salvation transforming us and overcoming our mortality.
