The ACT is the major college admissions test in this part of the country. The maximum score is 36. ACT average: Average scores for the 2003 and 2004 graduating classes. Percent taking ACT: Percentage of 2004 seniors who took the test. Ready for college: Percentages of test-takers who scored at or above benchmark "college readiness" levels, as determained by ACT researchers. Those benchmarks are the ACT scores needed to have a 75 percent chance of earning a C or above in certain college classes. For college English composition, ACT says, students should score at least 18 on the English portion of the test. For college algebra, student should score at least 22 on the math subtest. For college biology, student should score at least 24 on the science subtest. |
